Dahi Handi - Gokulashtami

Lord Krishna Janmashtami also known as 'Gokulashtami' is a hindu festival to celebrate the birth of krishna. In Maharashtra, it is popularly celebrated with a name called Dahi Handi with enormous zeal and enthusiasm. It consists of a (Handi) clay pot, suspended high above the ground containing prizes. These are setup in every nook and corner of the city, and groups of youngsters called 'Govinda pathaks' travel around in trucks and try to break as many handis as possible during the day. Many such groups compete with each other, especially for the handis that give out hefty rewards. This is something to resemble how krishan used to steal youghart from the pots together with his friends.

These group form Human pyramids and reach the height where the handi is suspended and break it. Watching this is a great sight. But there are also accidents many a times because of people falling from the top due to loss of balance.

Macro mania!

Digital photography by Sriram S - Bee Macro

I am always fond of macro shots. I love to capture those tiny insects and flowers and frame them in my album. Some times my photographs would disinterest people with so many tiny insects and flowers. This is one of my best shot of Bee.

Hindustan Hamara!!!

Demonstration against terrorism
I was enjoying my leave and watching a movie Today(19/08/08). Suddenly i heard some people shouting outside and noticed a demonstration in front of Nerul Railway station at 6.30 PM. I didnt have time to go down and hence took my camera and zoomed to the highest level and took a few snaps. They burnt a Pakistani flag and a putla!! The demonstration was to protest against terrorism saying that kashmir is part of india.
Thought of explaining whats written in Hindi.. but my Hindi itself is poor, so did not want to end up explaining something else.

Playing Kid

Kid playing in Murud Beach
Murud is located at around 11 kms from Dapoli and has a long, scenic stretch of beach. One side is the sea and the other side you could see huge mountains covered with full of greenery. This kid was enjoying himself playing in the beach. Since it wasn't raining on that particular day, everyone was out on the beach and few kids were having really good time.

Ladgar Beach - Dapoli
15th August we had a great time by taking our bikes on a long ride to Dapoli. Dapoli is a small town situated at a height of about 800ft above sea level in Ratnagiri district. We had a pleasant stay and enjoyed our weekend. This is great place for a weekend getaway and the beauty of konkan is breathtaking during monsoon. For nature lovers.. i would bet this is one of the best place for a weekend trip.
